Welcome

Mike Evemy I live near Cricklade having moved to Wiltshire in 1988 to start my career. Originally from South London, I attended the University of York, where I joined the Liberal Party and graduated in Economics and Statistics. In 1994, I began working for Nationwide Building Society, where I am now a senior marketing manager. In the 1997 and 2005 general elections, I contested the North Swindon constituency for the Liberal Democrats gaining nearly 7,000 votes on both occasions and increasing the Party's vote by 3.6% last time. In January 2007, I was chosen to fight the new North Wiltshire constituency by local Party members.

Great news and a sincere “thank you”

Hello
Wiltshire has its first Liberal Democrat MP for 80 years!
Duncan Hames and his team won the new Chippenham seat. I’m delighted that we played our part in that historic victory!
I’m only sorry I’m not joining him in the new Parliament to represent North Wiltshire. But I’m very grateful to all 17,631 people who voted [...]

The longest day…

There’s just 8 hours to go until the polls close at 10pm. So if you haven’t voted for me yet, please do so!
It looks like record numbers are voting in our closest-ever fight for North Wiltshire (we’ve had some very tight results here!)
It’s been a great effort. I owe a huge thank you to the [...]

A last blast of Paddy power

Paddy Ashdown stormed into Chippenham today to give a final boost to Duncan Hames and my campaigns.
We were on the High Street for an hour at lunchtime.
Again there was real demand for my posters. Voters took them from Calne, Hullavington, Bradenstoke & Hankerton.
Before joining Paddy I dropped into the local market in Brinkworth. I talked [...]

The first vote result – a Lib Dem landslide win!

Yesterday I was grilled by 10 year olds at a North Wilts primary school.
They asked me intelligent questions before voting. I could deal with most of them but the one on “when will we live on Mars” rather floored me!
After I and other Party representatives left, they voted.
The result was:
Liberal Democrat – 75
Conservative [...]

3 key questions and 1 very important point

I’ve spoken with hundreds of people over this bank holiday weekend.
Most conversations have been about three key questions:
1) Will the Lib Dems help working people and their families?
Yes. We’ll make the first £10,000 income tax free. That’s worth £700 too most people and £100 to most pensioners. We’ll pay for it by closing the tax [...]

Last orders, please?

Pubs are usually packed on a bank holiday.
They’re a big part of our village and small town life in North Wiltshire. Sadly they’re also under increased threat from the irresponsible prices of leading supermarkets.
More than 20 pubs have shut in North Wiltshire since Labour came to power. They’ve done nothing to stop the rot and [...]

The big “green” question answered in just a minute

I had just one minute on local BBC Radio this morning to talk about a crucial subject, climate change.
The environment is a crucial issue. It’s very important to me and to all of us. Yet it’s hardly got a look in at this election.
So I talked about it today in my “1 minute manifesto”. I [...]

Enthusiasm

There’s real enthusiasm about this election, particularly among young people.
Today I was with my good friend and fellow Lib Dem candidate Duncan Hames in Chippenham High Street. We spent a few hours talking to shoppers and passers-by about the election and various Lib Dem policies.
Many people said they’d already voted for us by post. Others [...]

Labour fade

The polls are starting to show Labour fading out of the national race and the Lib Dems closing on the Conservatives. That’s exactly how it felt locally today. People know Labour aren’t in it here.
I was out in Hullavington. We got a terrific reception on the doorstep with posters going up everywhere! It was [...]

Out and about in Purton

Yesterday I enjoyed some time with the Mothers and Toddlers group in Purton Village
Hall before heading for the local pre-school group.
They meet above the Methodist Church in Purton. I also got to meet more retired
people at the Cedars. They were looking forward to last night’s Leaders Debate
almost as much as I was!
